Biography of Amy AckerAmy Louise Acker was born to dance. Long, lean and remarkably serene, this dazzling Dallas native studied ballet, modern dance and jazz for 13 years, and easily became one of the city’s most notable performers. "While growing up, I was pretty shy, and dance was a great way to express things without having to talk in front of people," she explains. Sadly, her dance odyssey officially ended in high school when Amy was forced to undergo reconstructive knee surgery.
Down but certainly not out, Amy redirected her energy toward acting. She took her new passion to Southern Methodist University, where she entered the prestigious theater program. It was while Amy was studying at SMU that she truly came into her own; she landed a recurring role on the children’s television series Wishbone, as well as a modeling gig with J. Crew.
Amy’s big break came in 2001 when she was cast as quirky scientist Winifred "Fred" Burkle alongside David Boreanaz on Angel. In addition to adding a welcome dose of estrogen to the hit show, she also landed a coveted Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television. Amy has since appeared in a number of films, including Catch Me if You Can (2002), which starred Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, and The Perfect Man (2005), starring Hilary Duff and Heather Locklear. She hasn’t neglected her small-screen roots either, as she has been well-received in Justice League, How I Met Your Mother and Alias with Jennifer Garner.
